This 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL had a restoration performed shortly after purchase that is said to have included a dark olive green repaint, soft top replacement, a rebuilt 2.8-liter inline-six engine and four-speed manual transmission, and a beige interior reupholstery. Features include a removable Pagoda hardtop, chrome front and rear bumpers, polished exhaust tips, and 14-inch steel wheels with polished hubcaps. The July 2020 service included an oil change, cylinder head rebuild, and replacement of the timing chain, battery, oil pan gasket, and drive belts.
The fenders, side panels and trunk floor were also replaced at that time. Exterior features include chrome front and rear bumpers with overlays, polished trim and a dual exhaust. The removable hardtop is shown above, and the softtop is dark green.
The 14-inch steel wheels have full body-colored center caps and wear 195/70 Michelin HydroEdge tires. Braking is by disc at all four corners, and Bilstein shock absorbers are fitted front and rear.
The cabin has been reupholstered in tan leather, and the refurbishment also included replacing the wood interior trim. Amenities include an analog clock, a Becker Europa II radio, and Coco Mats for the front footwells, center tray, and rear storage area. The door seal mountings and windshield wipers were repaired in July 2020.
Instrumentation consists of a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer was reset during the refurbishment and now shows 17k miles. True mileage is unknown.
The 2.8-liter inline-six was rebuilt by Classic Star Autocraft and features Bosch mechanical fuel injection, a polished valve cover, and a brass coolant expansion tank. The cylinder head was rebuilt in July 2020 to correct improperly installed valves. An oil change was performed, and the timing chain, drive belts, battery, and sump gasket were also replaced at that time.
