This 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL was apparently delivered new from the factory in Germany and was exported shortly thereafter to its original owner, who kept the vehicle until 2008. The second owner commissioned a restoration that included a 2009 refinish of the body in the factory beige-gray color over a brown interior. Power is provided by a 2.8-liter inline-six engine equipped with fuel injection and mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Features include a removable brown Pagoda hardtop and a brown convertible top, chrome bumpers, polished exhaust tips, 14-inch steel wheels with hubcaps, and a Becker AM/FM radio. The work completed in 2020 is said to have included an oil change and a brake fluid flush. This W113 is now being offered in Arizona with a tool roll and jack, data card, manufacturer documentation, a repair manual, service records from the current and previous owner, renovation receipts, a hardtop storage rack, and a clean title.
Finished in Beige Gray (181) from the factory, the car is said to have been refinished in 2009 during previous ownership, and at that time the exterior chrome trim and rubber were replaced. Close-up photos of the paint, trim, and noted imperfections are provided in the gallery below along with images of the accompanying Pagoda hardtop.
Factory 14″ steel wheels feature covers with brown centers that coordinate with the Pagoda hardtop, and the wheels are mounted with 195/75 Goodyear S4S whitewall tires. A spare wheel is mounted inside the trunk along with a jack and tool roll. The brake fluid was reportedly flushed in preparation for the sale.
Originally finished with Cognac MB-Tex (140), the interior was re-trimmed in brown upholstery during previous ownership and features matching door panels and dash padding. Amenities include wood accents atop the dash and between the seats, a locking glovebox, and a Becker Europa AM/FM radio.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a separate horn ring and frames factory instrumentation that includes a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer. Just under 75k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, approximately 200 of which have been added by the seller.
The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six features Bosch mechanical fuel injection and produced 180 horsepower and 193 lb-ft of torque when new. The oil was changed and the fluids checked in 2020.
