This 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190SL was recovered from storage and underwent a restoration in 2003 by the previous owner, which included bodywork and a black repaint, along with a new beige leather interior finish. The 1.9-liter Solex inline-four carburetors were rebuilt, along with the four-speed manual transmission. Additional work included a complete overhaul of the suspension and braking systems, as well as refinishing the chrome bumpers, trim, trim and other elements.
The roadster's body was disassembled and stripped down to bare metal before being placed on a mechanical puller at a body shop to repair the collision damage near the driver's side headlight area. Body filler was added as needed before the car was sprayed with a single-stage epoxy primer, urethane primer, and urethane in the original black color.
The 13-inch black-painted steel wheels have polished decorative rings, body-colored hubcaps, and white-walled Yokohama Aegis LS4 tires. The suspension was equipped with replacement shock absorbers, springs, rubber bushings, and steering components. Records show that the braking system was also overhauled during the 2003 restoration.
The interior was reupholstered in factory beige leather on the seats, door panels, dashboard, and center tunnel. New square-weave carpets over new foam insulation lining were also added, as well as beige floor mats. Features include a locking glove box, a Becker Mexico AM/FM radio with under-dash speaker, and a Kienzle/VDO clock.
The factory two-spoke steering wheel has been refinished and features a 7,000 rpm tachometer, a 225 km/h speedometer, and a five-digit odometer reading just over 26,000 km, a number that appears to represent an older restoration. Approximately 3,800 km have been added since the 2003 restoration.
The 1.9-liter M121 inline-four was disassembled by the previous owner, and the block was machined and painted before rebuilding. The dual Solex side-draft carburetors were rebuilt by Will Samples of S&S Imports. Drive is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that was also reportedly rebuilt, as was the rear axle.
