Chevrolet Corvette 1961

This 1961 Chevrolet Corvette was built in July 1961 and sold on the 31st of that month through Capital Chevrolet to its sole registered owner. She special ordered the car, with a signal-sensing radio, deluxe heater, whitewall tires, and a hardtop only configuration. The original 283ci V8 is mated to a 3-speed manual transmission, and the car was driven to work regularly for 45 years until it was brought out for occasional weekend use. It has been serviced at James Ferguson Automotive in Austin for the past 30+ years. The exterior was repainted in the original Ermine White color over 20 years ago, while the interior is said to remain original.

This C1 retains the original 15″ steel wheels with hubcaps, which are shod with 6.70×15 Deluxe Champion whitewall Firestone tires.

According to the seller, the interior is original, down to the factory rubber floor mats. A set of vintage Eddie Bauer seat covers and double-ply carpet mats have been used for many years and will be used in the sale. The driver’s seat upholstery is torn, as shown above, while the dash, trim, and instrument panel appear well preserved, with a consistent patina in these images.

A recent inspection found that all lights, signals, gauges, and auxiliary systems are working properly. The odometer currently displays 20,748 miles and has rolled over once as corroborated by complete documentation from new.

The original 283ci V8 and 3-speed gearbox have been maintained in stock specification to the seller’s knowledge. A new, correct, VIN-stamped DeWitts radiator was recently installed. A mechanical servicing and compression check was completed prior to this auction, showing 162, 180, 194, 185, 175, 170, 185, and 195 psi in cylinders 1-8, respectively.
