Ford Mustang 1969

1969 Shelby Mustang GT500  428ci Cobra Jet V8 paired with a 3-speed C6 automatic transmission and 3.73:1 rear axle, and the car is finished in its original color of Black Jade with white side stripes over a black interior. Factory options include power steering, a Sport Deck rear seat, a tilt-away steering wheel, a Philco AM/FM radio, deluxe seat belts, a tachometer, air conditioning, a remote trunk release, and tinted glass. Maintenance in the last two years consisted of a carburetor rebuild, installation of a new power booster and spark plugs, and fluid changes. This GT500 is offered with a build sheet, a Deluxe Marti Report, stock exhaust components, factory literature, records dating to 1988.

The car is finished in Black Jade (3197-A) with white reflective side stripes and appears to have received a replacement trunk lid and fresh clear coat. A fiberglass repair was performed on the left front fender in 1997, and new hood pins, side window trim, and front chrome were installed. Corrosion is visible on the right rear fender and the lower inner corner of the doors, both of which are shown in the gallery below.

The windshield is a replacement, according to the seller, and photos are provided to show the Carlite engravings on the other window. The 15" Shelby wheels, reproduced, wear Cobra center caps and 255/60 Goodyear Eagle GT II tires, fitted in 1997. Power-assisted front disc brakes were included from the factory, and the brake pads and shoes were also last replaced in 1997.

The cabin features high-backed knit vinyl bucket seats with faux wood trim on the dash and door panels. A Shelby-installed gauge pod and roll bar with inertia-reel shoulder harnesses are equipped. Factory options include a Sport Deck rear seat, a tilt-away steering wheel, power steering, a Philco AM/FM radio, deluxe seat belts with a warning light, and tachometer. The dash pad, carpeting, door panels, headliner, and front seat upholstery were replaced in the late 1980s. Frayed areas on the left edge of driver’s seat were repaired in November 2018 as shown in the gallery below.

The 5-digit odometer shows 67k miles, approximately 7k of which were added by the seller in 23 years. Air conditioning was optioned from new but is not currently functional and will need to be reconnected and recharged according to the seller. The dash-mounted clock is also inoperative.

The 428ci Cobra Jet V8 was rebuilt in 1997 by Sacramento Mustang by reconditioning the existing Cobra Jet cylinder heads with stainless steel valves and hardened seats along with the installation of a Competition Cams camshaft, Rhoads hydraulic lifters, an Edelbrock aluminum intake, a replacement water pump, PerTronix ignition, and more as detailed in a document in the gallery. Date stamps for the period Holley 735 cfm carburetor can be viewed in the gallery. The carburetor was rebuilt in 2016 and is aspirated by a Cobra Jet Ram Air air cleaner. Other service in 2016 included installation of a new power booster and spark plugs as well as fluid changes, while an oil and filter change was performed in November 2018. The seller reports that retained factory emissions equipment includes the smog pump, Thermactor injectors and stems, anti-backfire check valve, exhaust manifold heat shield, heat riser S-tube, and air cleaner snorkel. A replacement exhaust system features stock Cobra Jet manifolds and Flowmaster mufflers, and stock components including a bullet-style muffler and rear transverse muffler are also included in the sale. Power is routed through a rebuilt C6 3-speed automatic transmission featuring a high-stall torque converter, heavy-duty internals, and a shift kit and on to a replacement 3.73:1 rear end.
